A Maury County deputy has died from his injuries after a Friday morning car crash, authorities say.
The Maury County Sheriff’s Department announced on its Facebook page on Saturday morning that Deputy Jimmy Tennyson died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with his family by his side.
Funeral arrangements are forthcoming.
“We lost our friend and brother this morning,” the post reads.
The crash took place about 7:30 a.m. Friday on Iron Bridge Road near Lofton Road and involved the deputy’s patrol car, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Christopher Dye.
Tennyson was a school resource officer for the department.
Dye said Tennyson was driving a Ford Crown Victoria along Iron Bridge Road when he negotiated a curve, crossed over the center line, over-corrected, left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and struck a treeline.
Tennyson was taken to Maury Regional Hospital and then transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dye said the deputy lives in the area and was likely on his way to work at one of the county’s schools when the wreck took place.
